e-sessions: randi and alex

August 15, 2012

randi and i go way back. we met back at a church camp when she was around 12. we’ve always had a cool relationship and i was thrilled to hear that she got engaged to alex (who i met last year). randi and alex were only up for a short time so we had to do something during a sketchy part of the summer, fortunately we got a great day with some great pics.
thanks to my bro, hollis for helping me out today.

it’s been a while since i’ve posted.  it’s not because i haven’t gotten any work, but it’s simply because i am swamped!  the joys of the summer months in alaska include the long sunny (don’t laff, alaskans) days and tons of weddings for me.
ashley and andy got married on a nice sunny day.  we were fortunate that the sun stayed out for the majority of our shooting outside as the skies quickly turned ominous.  as the clouds turned, we got a couple of portraits across the train tracks by the ocean and the whole experience out there was fantastic.
after the ceremony and portraits we headed to the coast international inn where the reception was being held.
the banquet room was filled with friends and family that were eager to have fun with drinks, food and dancing.
we had a great time and i know that this will not be the last party i do with these guys!
congrats to ashley and andy, my friends!

e-sessions: heather and jaime

February 15, 2012

having known heather for 25+ years and knowing jaime for 15+ years, i had a lil hunch on what kind of pics would look great for these two.
the first session we did we had to cut short. 40 minutes in -20 degrees can do crazy things to your body so we wrapped it up and waited for the weather to warm up for a more city look.
being 20 degrees for our next session still seemed cold for some reason, maybe it was the sun going down or the light breeze, but these two kept me warm by how genuine and happy they are.
we walked around downtown for a bit and found several places to shoot and things just fell into place. i love the b&w feel of the downtown pics (i think it’s cause i just got back from chicago and still have this street photography vibe in me) and the contrast between the first and second sessions. these two are as special as the pics turned out…can’t wait for the summer celebration!!

e-sessions: branden and tye

February 14, 2012

i met tye when we were doing our time at costco. he was always getting the aisles cleaned up by getting empty boxes while i worked with tvs, cameras and computers. we weren’t great friends, but we were friends.
i met branden a couple of years ago through mutual friends and we immediately hit it off.
when i saw tye at a fashion show that branden and i were helping out at, i kind of put two and two together and realized what was going on there. i was happy for both because i felt that the two of them deserved someone great and i kind of figured they would last.
the day before we set out on our photographic journey, we celebrated the opening of branden’s salon, Be Salon Studio the night was a blast and the space is pretty awesome. a solid contrast of chic and industrial in only the way Be could do it. so, congrats to you, be for an awesome opening/party and i’m glad tye was there for you the entire step of the way! for those of you who read my stories, Be is an excellent hair stylist!! go see her, you won’t be disappointed!
fast forward one day for our shoot…the temp read 24 degrees but my body said 0. i don’t know about these two, but i was pretty cold the majority of the session, but it was worth it. these two have a great chemistry together and i can’t wait for their summer session.
big props to my assistant, Chris Thomas (CT) for being the best out there.

i need to start this post by saying that these two were amazing and were very willing to oblige my request of doing a photo shoot when it was -15 outside, i think the photos came out beautifully and on a warmer day, this would have never happened.
lela and stephanie contacted me asking to meet and talk engagement sessions. we finally came up with a date to meet and we discussed many possibilities with their session and then they told me that they were one of the contest finalists for a dream wedding on the empire state building on valentine’s day!
a day before our session they found out that they were one of four couples to have won! if you ever meet these two, you will know why they won. they have this great chemistry and i could really tell that they were meant for each other.
i could go on with how great they are, but i’d rather let the pics do the talking.

every once in a while i get to do a trash the dress session, but this is the first time i’ve done it with 4-wheelers and what an experience it was. jennifer and andy came up with this idea when we met earlier in the year to talk about their wedding. once the wedding had come and gone we started brainstorming some more and finally came up with a game plan for their session.
after a short drive and a nice long ride we got to our destination and had a good time getting images. the scenery was beautiful and splashing through the mud was great =)
i’m glad i got to do this with these two, it was a blast and it’s something i’ll never forget.
